Considered one of the sturdiest species of fish, goldfish require almost little or no maintenance. Creating conducive living conditions is very easy…here is how:
• Do not add too many fish to the bowl. A larger population of fish in the bowl will contaminate the water faster. Not only will the fish get suffocated, there will also be an uneven distribution of oxygen for each one of them. Gold fish are extra sensitive to contaminated water, so keep yours extremely clean.
• Goldfish thrive on algae and spirulina so ensure that you feed these to them.
• It is a wise idea to soak pelleted food for ten minutes or so before feeding the fish. This could save them an attack of Air Bladder Disease that most goldfish are prone to.
• Goldfish are said to have a soft spot for spinach and lettuce (minus the salt of course), so try small quantities initially.
• Feed the fish several times during the day instead of the occasional once or twice.
