Does your career suit your taste?
Understand yourself very well and opt for a career that suits your likes, attitude, temperament and skills if you have to be satisfied with it for the rest of your life
Once you get up from bed in the morning do you feel lazy and angry everyday that you have to go to work? If it is a daily phenomenon, it definitely means that you hate your work. Your job does not suit your likes, attitudes, temperaments and skills. So you are not able to enjoy doing the work. The result is that you cannot be productive.
What to do?
Now you know why you hate your job. What should you do to avoid the situation? You should choose a job that suits your tastes, preferences and temperament. Though it is most often impossible to find such a job, sincere efforts have to be made to see if it is possible.
Choose a career area
First you have to choose a career area that interests you. Let us imagine that one person takes up medicine as his career area. Now he is more focused if he says he wants to be a doctor. If he decides to be a surgeon he is more specific and if he again wants to be a specialist in open-heart surgery he is all the more focused. If he has decided to work in a particular hospital where he can do good service, it goes without saying that he has a clear idea of his career path. From a broad career area, you can arrive at a career path that suits you. If you know your tastes and preferences and strengths and weaknesses, you will be able to design your career path in a systematic way.
Know the waters before diving into it
Before you choose a career it is better if you know everything about it.
Consider this situation. You love writing. So one day you decide that you want to take up writing as a career. Remember, there are many career areas that writing covers. Which one would you want to choose? Copy writing, reporting, technical writing or creative writing? You are much concerned about the society and it's well being and you want to do reporting to expose all the evils in society and bring the culprits to task ( too idealistic). Remember, there are chances that you feel depressed very soon. The newspaper or magazine you are working for, might have it's own sacred cows and the moment you touch them, you will be prevented from doing it. Now you will be depressed and would be dissatisfied with the profession.
What is the solution? Test the waters before diving into it. When you plan to choose a career, gather information regarding all the aspects of it. Only if it appeals after that, go ahead.
Think well
Never attempt something that you cannot do just to please someone or make money. Maybe the society respects doctors and they are well paid too. Due to these reasons your parents want you to take it up as your profession. You are a person who hates the smell of hospital and medicines. You hate the profession. Just to please your parents and make money, you qualify to be a doctor. You will never enjoy your work and will never do justice to what you do.
